Maria Nearl
Looking to restore her family's honor, Maria Nearl enrolls in the preliminaries of the 24th Kazimierz Major. The legacy of her exiled sister Margaret, a previous champion, looms heavy, however, and many in Kazimierz don't wish to see a Nearl victorious in the tournament once more. Despite corruption and foul play both inside and outside the arena, Maria fights her way to the final match of the preliminaries, where the powers in charge of Kazimierz arrange for a fight she cannot possibly win. When all seems lost, however, her sister returns in glory, helping her to overcome the challenge and emerge victorious.

After a dramatic final almost interrupted by sabotage and kidnapping, Margaret's final victory while showing comraderie with her Infected opponent inspires her family, her friends, and the citizens of Kazimierz to seek a new way forward, free from the grip that has held the country back for so long.
